New collection presentation

WE CELEBRATE 150!

This year the mpk celebrates the 15o. anniversary of its foundation. Supported by a great deal of civic commitment, the plans for an industrial museum were put into practice from 1875, after the Palatinate Industrial Museum Association had already been founded in December 1874.

Today we can look back on an eventful history in which the museum, which has been sponsored by the Palatinate District Association for almost 9o years, has developed into one of the most important museums in Rhineland-Palatinate. The original industrial museum has become an art museum of distinction, which houses a valuable and varied collection of supra-regional importance. We are placing this collection at the center of our anniversary year in the form of a new collection presentation.

Experience a selection of almost 3oo works of painting, sculpture, graphic art, photography and applied art in three thematic tours: “What is art?”, “Man in art” and “Art with all the senses”. The new production poses fundamental questions: What motivates people to create art? Who decides what art is? It also creates connections to people’s own lives and sensory approaches to art.

Numerous new additions enrich the tour, with donations that we received for the 150th anniversary. Further works that we would like to add to the collection will follow. Find out more about our “wish list” if you would like to support us with these acquisitions.
