Geometry and order

In this room, the principle of geometric and mathematical orders takes center stage. The formal rigor of “Concrete Art” is translated by Frank Badur, Linda Karshan, Kenneth Snelson and Klaus Staudt into an artistic game that uniformly repeats patterns and varies them within a fixed geometric grid.

Josef Albers is a pioneer of geometric art. He achieved fame above all with his long-term series “Homage to the Square”, in which he, in ever changing combinations, combines square areas of color with geometric spatiality. The artist comments:

“I’m like a fisherman who pulls in his net every hour to see what’s in it. I need ten centuries, millions over millions of squares.”
