A look into the depot
A museum’s collections comprise far more works of art than those on display in the exhibition rooms. Contemporary taste and curatorial decisions determine what is displayed as a masterpiece. The majority of the complete collection is stored safely, side by side and usually only accessible to the curators and restorers in the depot – the heart and memory of the museum.
Countless untold stories and some masterpieces can be found there. In this way, depots offer the opportunity to question the past, present and future again and again.
A selection of these treasures is shown here.
